Edmonton Optometrist
Dr. Ross McKenzie
Dr. Ross McKenzie, OD is an Edmonton optometrist at Helio Optometry in west Edmonton, serving patients in Crestwood, Parkview, Laurier Heights and the surrounding neighbourhoods. He completed his B.Sc at the University of Saskatchewan, majoring in Human Anatomy, before graduating with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry — where he was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa Honour Society for academic excellence.
Medical Eye Care in Edmonton
Dr. McKenzie brings an extensive clinical background in medical eye care, with a focus on cataracts, diabetic eye exams, and emergency eye care. He has worked directly alongside several Edmonton cataract and laser eye surgeons, giving him deep, practical knowledge of surgical criteria, potential complications, and post-operative care — expertise he brings directly to his patients at Helio Optometry. This background has also led to cross-disciplinary speaking engagements covering contact lens infections, corneal abrasions, retinal detachments, and floaters.
Progressive Lenses & Contact Lenses
Helping patients find the right lenses for their lifestyle is a cornerstone of Dr. McKenzie's practice. Whether fitting patients in their first pair of progressive lenses or finding the right contact lens solution for a complex prescription, he takes the time to get it right.
Myopia Management & Pediatric Eye Care
Dr. McKenzie has a growing passion for pediatric eye exams and myopia management in Edmonton. Helping children see clearly and succeed in school — while slowing the progression of nearsightedness with the latest myopia control techniques — is an area he continues to actively study and develop.
Outside the Clinic
As a Crestwood local, Dr. McKenzie spends his free time at neighbourhood parks with his kids, skiing, playing hockey, and the occasional running race or triathlon. You'll likely spot him around the west end — don't hesitate to say hi.
