New to the Neighbourhood? Here’s Your Guide to Eye Care in West Edmonton

Helio Optometry eye care clinic serving Crestwood, Parkview, Sherwood and Glenora in West Edmonton, Alberta

Moving to a new neighbourhood means a whole new list of “who do I go to for…?” questions. A new dentist. A new family doctor. And yes — a new optometrist. If you’ve recently landed in Crestwood, Parkview, Sherwood, Jasper Gates, Laurier Heights, or Glenora, welcome to the west side of Edmonton. We’re glad you’re here.

We’re Helio Optometry, and we’re right in the heart of your new community at the ONE FOUR NINE building on the corner of 149th Street and 95th Avenue. We’d love to be your family’s go-to eye care clinic — so here’s everything you need to know to get started.

“At Helio, we don’t just want to be the clinic you visit once a year — we want to be part of your family’s story in this neighbourhood.”

What Makes Helio Different From Other Eye Clinics in West Edmonton

We know you have options, and we don’t take that lightly. Here’s what sets us apart from other optometry clinics in the area:

  • Comprehensive, educational eye exams — We use advanced technology, including OCT imaging, Optomap Ultrawide Field imaging, and precise auto-refraction equipment. We don’t rush through your exam; we take the time to explain what we’re seeing and why it matters.

  • Same-day eyeglasses — Our onsite edging lab can have your new glasses ready in as little as 30–40 minutes. We’re the only clinic in this part of West Edmonton with this capability. Broken your frames? Need an update before a big meeting? We’ve got you.

  • Three experienced optometristsDr. Ross McKenzie, Dr. Matthew Sobolewski, and Dr. Erica Lei each bring unique expertise to their exams, including a special focus on diabetes eye health and specialty contact lens fitting.

  • Specialty contact lenses — From multifocal to RGP and scleral lenses, we fit lenses that most clinics simply don’t offer.

  • Myopia control for kids — If your child is nearsighted or showing early signs, we offer myopia management programs that can slow myopia progression over time.

How to Transfer Your Eye Care Records to Helio

Switching to a new clinic is easier than you think. When you book your first appointment with us, simply let our team know where your records are held, and we’ll take care of the transfer. You can also use our online file transfer form to make it even quicker.

If you have an existing prescription, you’re also welcome to bring it in — outside prescriptions are always welcome in our optical.

What to Expect at Your First Eye Exam

Your first visit at Helio is designed to be thorough, comfortable, and — dare we say — genuinely interesting. Here’s how it typically flows:

You’ll start with our pre-testing suite, which includes digital retinal imaging with our Optomap system (capturing up to 82% of your retina in a single image, without drops in most cases), auto-refraction to get a baseline prescription, and intraocular pressure measurement. Then you’ll see one of our optometrists for a full assessment of your vision and eye health, followed by time with our licensed opticians if you’re interested in new eyewear.

“We see patients of all ages — from toddlers to seniors — and we always make time to answer your questions. No rushing, no guessing what things mean. That’s our promise.”

Whether you’re a young professional, a parent bringing the kids in for their first exam, or someone managing a condition like diabetes who needs careful, ongoing eye health monitoring — we have the team, the technology, and the time for you.

Booking is easy: you can schedule online anytime, or give us a call at 780.628.6855. We offer evening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays so you don’t have to take time off work.
