Eyewear Style & Inspiration … Merano by ECO
Every week, one of our team members spotlights a frame style in our collection that speaks to them. In this week's Eyewear Style & Inspiration, we talked to our certified ophthalmic assistant Paige.
My favourite frame currently is from ECO eyewear, in the style Merano. This frame stood out to me immediately because of the polygonal shape; it looks bold yet subtle because of the sand-like colouring. The ECO Merano has a matte soft-touch finish which adds a unique feel. The frame itself is made out of 95% recycled stainless steel. Also, as a bonus, these sunglasses are polarized to reduce glare and start at a great price point.

What does your eyewear say about you, and what message do you want it to tell?
ECO eyewear believes that eyeglasses are more than fashion and function but can also drive social conversation and change.
At Helio Optometry, we couldn't agree more, which is one reason we decided to offer the collection at Helio Optometry. Over the past decade, eyewear has seen a dramatic decline in quality, with multiple start-up corporations producing fast fashion disposable eyewear. Our philosophy at Helio Optometry is always quality over quantity.
Why we love ECO eyewear:
ECO chooses to create sustainable eyewear by using recycled metal, castor seeds, and recycled ocean plastics. Plus, they plant a tree for every pair sold.
Why we wear ECO eyewear:
They're fun, colourful, youthful in appearance, and crazy lightweight. The product itself tells a story that you can share with your friends. They're not just a frame, but a frame made from 95% recycled metal. They highlight that more than 50% of the ocean's microplastic waste is from abandoned fishing lines and nets, not plastic straws (although every little bit matters).
What's unique about ECO eyewear?:
Besides being made from recycled materials, plant-based castor seeds, or recycled fishing nets, ECO has one of the coolest sunglass clip designs we've ever seen, with hidden magnetic clips designed to match the frames exactly. The seamless connection makes it almost impossible to tell that they're a clip while still being super easy to use. Plus, one more bonus is that they're polarized.
